The reviews here are a bit ridiculous. This rack is exactly what it should be. It holds well and works well with The base bars. You only have to lift 30lbs, if your bike weighs 30 lbs. my 17lb bike is easy to lift. As for the person complaining they have to lift their bike to the top of their vehicle, did you want it to levitate it there on its own?

Um, this design is hardly unique to Audi. This is the defacto roof rack design of Thule, Yakima, etc. If you're that worried about damaging your car, maybe you shouldn't drive one? I've personally used roof and tail bicycle racks on many cars and have never had a problem. And anybody who actually rides bicycles knows that popping on or off a bicycle wheel via a quick-release axle takes about 5 seconds.
Not a wuss., 10/23/2012
This attachment is only for those that can lift more than 30 lbs and know how to loosen a front wheel of a bicycle. The weak and impatient should not apply.

This is ridiculous!! Why would you want to 1) lift your bike to the car's roof 9possibly damaging the car, and 2) want to have to go through the hassle of removing/ reassembling your bike's wheel before and after every bike ride? I'm very disapointed in Audi
